A Theatre Church experience

As an active Christian and an avid churchgoer, I have had the opportunity to visit many different and unique church venues. When we lived in Texas, we attended Harmony Baptist Church in Arlington. The pastor of the church had mentored our pastor "back home" in Missouri, and our home pastor really helped us connect with the church.

One of the most interesting aspects of the church is that it met in the UA 8 movie theater in Arlington. What a neat experience! You walked into the front doors, and were greeted by people behind the candy counter. The different children's classes were located in the smaller-showing movie rooms. The Grand Theater housed our church service. Every Sunday, the workers would bring and build a stage area for him to preach from.

It was a great experience, because you could see and hear everything happening on the makeshift pulpit. Although it was a smaller church, the huge room was filled with music when we sang. Seating was optimal; theater seating is great because you can easily see everything. I particularly liked the fact that, when we would bring Grandpa in his wheelchair, the room was very handicapped friendly. There was no jostling for good seating, and yet, Grandpa didn't feel any different from anybody else in the theater.

I do wish that the church had been able to take advantage of some of the sound and screen features in the theater. Now that I go to a church that offers large screen viewing, and optimal sound acoustics, I really see where we could have had a larger experience at UA 8.  However, it was a great experience. We're glad we were able to go to church there. At the Theatre Churrch Conference, you can find out more about how to make the most of your church's theatre experience.

The Theatre Church Conference is being held in Silver Springs, MD October 22-23. You can find out more here.
