Another day off school

As I alluded to in the post about Emily, we didn't have school again today. The roads were really bad.

Our district is just awesome. I keep going on and on about this, I know, but I just wanted to again say that I am so blessed to raise my children here!  Emily's youth pastor is the assistant superintendant, and he and his wife have become amazing friends of ours. Mike is the one who makes the initial determination at around 4:30 in the morning, getting the ball rolling in case school is called.

Yesterday was a little tough because the event didn't start until later overnight, and didn't move into our neck of the woods until later in the"prime time period" for calling school. Then, our system apparently went kaput. The phone system, the email, and the school notification system were all three so overwhelmed that nobody really knew for sure until after 7:30 whether or not we were having school.  That was especially tough for the older kids, who were theoretically waiting at the bus stops. It was terrible, and had it not been for the grace of our amazing town, and the quick response by the school officials, I think a lot more people would have been upset.

The phone system is really cool.  We tease Mike that he's the only one who could get by with calling us overnight and waking us. But he's such a happy, positive, cheerful man, that it's pretty difficult to be upset when you hear his voice on the phone.  I love it, too, because he always says something along the lines of, "Hey, kids, the roads are awfully slick today, and since we care about you so much, we're going to keep you inside today. Grab a book, stay warm, and have a good day."

An added bonus was that Darren got off work early today. His boss's boss realized Darren was putting in a lot of extra time, and kicked him out of the office.  I'm glad for that, because he got the opportunity to come home and take an afternoon nap before spending time with Emily before she left.  Then I made burritoes for us and the boys, and now we're just hanging around!

Hope you have a great evening. Enjoy your blessings.
