Well, that was a surprise!

We have an unexpected holiday today!

When we went to bed last night, the skies were clear and crisp. Yes, it was cold. VERY cold. But we got to view the red moon (courtesy of God and a lunar eclipse) and there was nothing precipitating from the sky.

But this morning was another story. Darren's alarm went off at 6:20, and he went upstairs to wake Emily. She asked (begged, pleaded) for another 15 minutes sleep. During this time, I noticed there were schools closing all over the area, but not in our neck of the woods.

Fifteen minutes later, Emily stumbled downstairs, and walked into the bathroom. She started the shower and hung up her towel, and started to get ready to bathe the sleep out of her eyes. Then, "Your school district is closed," rang across the television airwaves. She celebrated for a few moments (well, celebrated as much as you can when it's early and you're sleepy) then she stumbled upstairs and back to bed, where she slept for 3 1/2 more hours.

I woke up, made coffee and muffins, and sat down to get some work done. Hubby left in this mess. I insisted he drive the Durango with 4 wheel drive. There is NO WAY I am getting out in this mess!  He made it to work in just under an hour in a half. It typically takes him just around 20 minutes to get to work. Every interstate around the city was shut down at some place during rush hour. It was amazing.

So, we're sitting here playing, reading, and catching up. We're having fun! Lunch will be chicken strips and homemade soup. Then I start with dinner. I am assuming we won't have dance tonight.

Take care!  If you're able to go outside, enjoy the crisp air. If you're caught inside, take solace in the chilly, wrap in a quilt, and enjoy a hot cuppa tea. That's what I'm doing right now.
