The phone call no parent wants to get
Today, I got the phone call no parent ever wants to receive. "There's been a bus accident, and your children are on board."
::::::::::::::thud::::::::::::::::::
Everyone involved in the accident is fine. Matt has a bonk on his forhead, Mikey was so scared that he threw up, but according to the email I just got from the principal, everybody came through it unscathed. Praise God!
We had terrible weather today. The temperature kept dropping all day, and this afternoon, we got a couple of inches of ice and snow, and high winds. By the time school let out, it was pretty treacherous. The bus was slowing down to stop at a stoplight, and instead, started sliding. The car behind hit the bus. According to Matt, his head popped forward. According to Mikey, he bounced high out of his seat. There were only 6 kids on the bus, and the bus driver. Nobody was hurt, not even the driver of the car who hit.
Hearing the boys tell the tale was amazing. They love their bus driver. They said he was very concerned, very funny, and helped make them feel better. Within 5 minutes, the school had called me, the principal and vice principal were there, and everything was under control.
After checking over the boys and seeing they were fine, and hugging them and kissing them until they were wriggling out of my arms to get away, I sat down and emailed the assistant superintendant (a good friend of ours, and Emily's youth pastor) as well as the principal and vice principal. I wanted to tell them how much I appreciated the way they cared for our children. The boys could be a little nervous about riding the bus tomorrow. Instead, they want to make sure everybody's okay. I am, as always, astounded at the resiliency of children.
