Grab your 15 minutes of fame with Yawpbox

Andy Warhol said that we will all get our 15 minutes of fame. In the past couple of decades, video recorders have become more and more affordable, and various outlets have allowed us to not only showcase our own fortunes (or misfortunes), but also to share these with the world, and experience some voyeuristic thrill.  It started with "America's Funniest Home Videos," and now, with the advent of the internet and a plethora of video sharing sites, we can all be film and movie producers.  Grabbing our 15 minutes of fame is becoming easier, funnier, and in many cases, flashier.

The rise in this video sharing is astronomical. Even I, who have a cheapie DV-8 video camera, have made movies. Granted, I have a background as a media editor, but many people who are hobbyist videographers and storytellers, are producing Hollywood-like video enterainment bits on the web. Photo websites are starting to plug into the video sharing craze, offering packages where people can share their videos, as easily as they share their digital photos. You don't even need a digital video camera to do this!

There are also video sharing communities, that allow you to submit and rank videos. One such community is YawpBox.  YawpBox is a place where users can go for community, to play games, and to upload and view videos. In a unique twist, they are combining television and web to create a 30 minute magazine stye TV show featuring the videos submitted by users. There are topics such as, "Do Whatever You Can to Be a Star," and "Show Us Your Craziest Holiday Footage." Users upload their appropriate videos, and these are voted upon as to whether or not they meet the criteria.  The show's stars, Lex and Terry, have issued a challenge to kick off this web show. All you have to do is post your video to the site, and see if you make the cut! Check out the Yawpbox TV tab to get started.

I think Yawpbox has a future as a fun and entertaining website. Check it out and see if you can grab your 15 minutes of fame!
