Ten Years Ago Tonight
Tomorrow is Matt's 10th birthday. Or, as we like to refer to it in our family, tomorrow, my oldest son will be 2 handfuls. I think back to how I felt 10 years ago, and have highlited 10 ways our lives have changed since then. Here's a small run down of life on October 23, 1997.
1. We had just moved to 1210 Golfview Dr. Our first house. 1.1 miles from Mom and Grandpa.
2. The world was still reeling from Princess Diana's death.
3. Miss Emily was still toddling around, with her gorgeous hair, and her cute little grown up personality. She was 2 and just adorable as can be. She was so excited about being a big sister! She would sing songs to my big belly.
4. Darren was working for Enterprise Rent A Car.
5. We had never had a car payment. We drove an unairconditioned 1978 Ford Fairmont, and a 1986 Ford Tempo.
6. I was HUGE! Big huge belly! You could clearly see Matthew. I used to joke that my tummy looked like I had swallowed a bedpan.
7. Darren and I had just gone on our first grown up vacation. We went to Vegas, on a trip we won at his office Christmas party. We stayed at Circus Circus. It was 108 degrees, and I was 6 months pregnant. MISERABLE (bus fun!)
8. I had never been out of the country.
9. People we loved dearly were still alive, and a vital part of our everyday lives. Mom, Grandpa Bud, and to a much lesser degree, Grandma Dorothy.
10. I had just discovered the internet, and it still scared me.
