8 Things About My Marriage

Marriage Meme

Pattie tagged me! She probably knows more about my marriage than anybody but me and Darren.

8 Things About My Marriage:

1. We got engaged less than a week after we started dating. I think my Mom was convinced it was my attention getting ruse, since two of my sisters were also getting married that year. But we honestly couldn't find any reason not to!

2. I'm a cradle robber. Darren is 6 months and 7 days younger than I am. Because of that, I made us get our marriage license on December 7, 1991, so that it would read in the newspaper that we were both 21. My birthday is December 8.

3. We married December 28, 1991. We chose that date because it was winter break (we were still in college), and I had hoped to get pictures of me outside in the snow. But alas, it was a gorgeous 70 degree day!

4. We have lived in 2 states (Missouri and Texas) and in 7 domiciles in 6 towns. We now live in the town where we started our married lives.

5. We almost divorced shortly after our second anniversary. Money was the primary issue. He actually left me, and stayed with his sister. We have had some uphill battles, but we are so strong now!

6. We have created 3 amazing children. Blessings beyond belief.

7. He had to move to Missouri for a month, without us. We were in Texas, and completely miserable. He had to start working on April 4. We didn't close on our house until May 3. It was a horrible month. I didn't sleep, because I was scared to death I was going to die in my sleep, and my kids would be stuck in foster care until he could get back. I also had to pack the entire house myself. We didn't have friends and family in Texas, so I was left to do everything. I absolutely resented that he was in KC going to parties, being spoiled by his mom, when I was stuck alone doing everything. It took a long time for me to get over that, but I am over it now, and we will never be separated like that again.

8. We are very alike in our beliefs. Our Christian beliefs have melded together nicely (although it was a large chasm at the first of our marriage). Our political beliefs are USUALLY on par (my College Republican friends actually "kidnapped" him and interrogated him about his political beliefs to make sure he was good enough for me). We parent the same. We laugh at the same things. We can finish each other's sentences.

I am tagging Louise, Susan and Lesley.
