You're HIRED!

Today was the official "Take your child to work," day at Darren's office. Emily debated whether or not to go to summer (camp) school, or to go to work with Daddy. She chose Daddy.

She dressed very professionally, in a plaid skirt and white polo, with dress shoes.  When she got there, she had breakfast with Daddy and his friends, and got to meet Daddy's boss.  She charmed him!  She said, "Mr. Vance, it's so nice to meet you! I think it's impressive that somebody so young is in charge of the entire company. You must be very smart, and you must have gone to a very good school."  Now, Daddy put her up to that!  It's a running joke that his boss went to a school, "not acceptable by the team's standards," (insert snicker here) and that he's too young to boss around a bunch of goofballs like Darren's group.  It was a funny first impression.

After that, she went to the conference room, where they gave them "briefcases," which were backpacks filled with pens, pads, employment applications, games, etc. They did team building exercises and learned how to fill out applications. The talked about their future plans (Emily wants to be an Air Force nurse or anesthesiologist).  They talked about staying in school, etc. She was hired as an American Idol judge, replacing Simon Cowell.

After the morning session, the kids and parents got an hour long lunch in the company cafeteria. Emily got a soup and sandwich. After lunch, they had a couple of more hours of sessions, including a mock trial where they served as the jury that handed out a million dollar settlement.  After that, they were released to their parents. For the next hour, Darren had her fill out some sheets he had to send to billing.

By the time she walked in the door, she was flat out exhausted. I said, "That's why Mom and Dad are so tired at night!"

It was a good day, and I'm glad she got the experience.

Thanks for dropping by my blog--I love this story about your daughter's visit to work. She sounds like an incredibly confident and poised young lady (not unlike her mom, eh?)!

Hope you've had a great visit with Pattie. I'm so glad you and I met.
